I have a 2017 Elantra GT and when it’s hot outside and I’m driving the car emits gas fumes which come thru my A/C vents. When I park the car and get out I can smell gas everywhere. Is this a known problem with these cars?

I would have that checked out.

Sounds like a possibly faulty EGR valve, or a cracked fuel line. You should have it checked out.

I have a 2017 Elantra and haven't had that problem either. Good luck.

Definitely go to Palm Springs Hyundai! They will get to the bottom of it for you. BTW you should still be under warranty?

I searched google and found a guy with same problem. Two dealers both told him it’s a manufacturer defect in the gas ventilation system, in their words it’s the way Hyundai built it. They said they couldn’t help him. When it gets really hot the fumes have nowhere to go so they push thru the gas cap and surround the car. Then the get sucked into the A/C vents. If the sky is behind you you can see the fumes really well. Bursting out.

I have a 2015 Genesis Coupe 3.8 and I have a similar problem. I live in Vegas and have to run the AC all day and I noticed that if I ran the AC to circulate outside air, it would smell like fuel fumes so I ran the recirculation option and it stopped the problem. The smell from my car was more like exhaust than actual fuel though. If you are smelling fuel, perhaps there is a problem with your fuel tank and you should get it checked out. Heat especially causes gasoline to expand and if your fuel tank is not properly sealed, it could be emitting gas fumes. If you suspect fumes are leaking from somewhere, just use the smell to detect the source then get eye level with that point and look into the horizon and you will see the fumes coming out because it will be blurry and distorted from the gas coming out. Any surface that is hot will have distortion in the surrounding air but a gas leak will extend a few inches or feet beyond that. Good luck!

I have never had that problem with my 2015 Elantra. I would take it to be checked out.
