Dimes, quarters and halves 1964 and earlier are made of 90% coin silver. 1965 to 1969 they made halves out of 40% silver for circulation. Halves in proof and mint sets for 1970 are made of 40% silver as well. 40% silver was also used in the bicentennial proof and uncirculated sets as well as Eisenhower dollars in those special sets.
