Without knowing exactly which coin you are referring to, it is hard to speculate. Our mint started minting coins in the 1790's. Practically any US coin minted in the 1700's will be collectible. But be aware that there are numerous fakes and fantasy pieces out there. Also be aware that there are many later coins that show multiple dates, like our bicentennial coinage from 1976, or dates that reflect a time period but were actually minted recently, like the presidential dollar series.
