For those of you that have never been on an airplane.. simple rules are to use a carry on sized suitcase or backpack..usually the luggage tells you if its a carry on. One caviiot is low budget airlines like spirit, allegiant and frontier let's say...will have a specific size for a personal item...also a carry on but must fit under a seat...So, in conclusion I would go with a regular sized carry on and if you look like your lugging more than others then it may need a gate ✔ chec which is usually free
