The state fair is two weeks in October. The rest of the year is the flea market weekends, and outbuildings in use for events. You just do a search on 'nc state fairgrounds', check the monthly calendar if any doubt.

The flea market is open on Saturday and Sunday from 9AM Until 5PM. It stops about a month before the fair opens.
