I traveled last week through CLT and my non real ID drivers license worked just fine. The person that said only accepted form is license with the symbol is wrong.

No the only accepted forms of ID is real id symbol on drivers license or ID card, Global Entry entry, or passport.

As of October you're supposed to have your REAL ID. Otherwise you'd be rolling the dice...
