I don't work there but have volunteered at another shelter. And it takes a lot of time in the morning to feed, clean up and walk all the animals. That way the facility is clean and the dogs a little calmer for guests.
Hi. Our staff actually begins to arrive at 6am to feed, exercise and get the animals ready for visitors at noon. Spay-neuter clients begin to arrive at 8 and fosters are early as well. The noon-5 weekday hours are for adoptions and 10-5 weekends.
The hours do make it difficult for people who have a job.
Adoptions is the only department that opens at 12 during the week and 10am on Saturday and Sundays. This is to allow time in the morning for all the animals to be walked or let out, have the cages cleaned, fed, medicated, and the daily medical rounds to make sure everyone is doing well. Our adoptions are open until 5pm and the staff is usually still there until 6-7pm. We are open 7 days a week to allow ample opportunity for those that work during our regular hours. Our intake and foster department is open at 8am.
