Are you active duty or a dependent and married? The base housing is off base btw!
Active duty without dependants will live in the barracks on base. They can choose to live off base ie with friends or a significant other they are NOT married to but you will not receive BAH in most circumstances & will still have a room assigned in barracks. If the sailor is considered to be "with dependants" (spouse, children, etc) you will have the option to live either in housing, which is not 'on base' or you find your own housing and recieve BAH. The BAH amount for the area is currently set at $1395 for active duty with dependants. If you live in the housing that is sponsored by the military (it is managed by Balfore Beatty) all BAH would go directly to them. You will not pay separately for rent, electric, water, heating, or for basic cable. If you find your own rental all utilities would be based on the rental agreement & most will be your direct responsibility. The area rents are somewhat high so you may find yourself paying more than $1395 BAH allotment.
