I moved to CT and am leasing a new car tomorrow. I want to trade in my old car and need the title, but have lost it. Is that something they can email to the dealership? Or do I have to go to the dmv to obtain it?

Titles are only required for vehicles that are 2001 and newer. Most new car dealers in Rhode Island can handle that transaction for you through a direct connection they have to the DMV computer system. If they insist you obtain the title on your own you must do that in the Research Office of our Cranston headquarters. Here is the form to fill out: http://www.dmv.ri.gov/documents/forms/title/TR-2_TR-9.pdf Costs are listed in the DMV Fee Table, hereL http://www.dmv.ri.gov/forms/fee/index.php#6

I do this for a living and you DO NOT have to go to dmv.. you go right thru the dealership you are buying a new car from.. you will have to pay for the new title but that's about it.

If it's a Rhode Island title you apply for it on the third floor of the Cranston DMV if that car was financed U will also need a original lien release letter But many dealers will let you apply for it at the dealership but it does take like 45 days to get a title

Yes while you are in the dealer just sign an application for title form and they can submitted to the dmv and the title will be mail to the dealership. You dont have to go to the dmv.

You have to go to the DMV AND APPLY for a title and that can take as long as 6 weeks to get the new title
