What you need to know about transferring your vehicle registration can be found here: http://www.dmv.ri.gov/registrations/transfer/index.php Some things to know: Insurance is mandatory in Rhode Island. New residents need to have their cars inspected within five days of being registered. You will need the title of your vehicle if the model year of the vehicle is 2001 or newer. You will need to get a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) check done at a local police station before you register. License transfer details are here: http://www.dmv.ri.gov/licenses/oosTransfer/ Your initial Rhode Island license will be valid for up to two years, expiring on your birthday.
