Do I need to make an appointment to get a more current picture for my RI Driver's License. Do I need to send in an application ahead of any appointment time? Mine expires 4/21/2022.

Irene, we require a new photo every other time your license is up for renewal. In most cases, that's 10 years (2, 5-year renewal periods). If you've reached that point, you must make an appointment in one of our offices (or a AAA branch, if you are a member) to have your picture retaken. You cannot send in the renewal application ahead of time. Just bring it with you or fill out one when you arrive at our office. All service is by appointment, which must be made online at www.dmv.ri.gov Look for the blue reservation boxes on the home page.

Print the L1 form. Put that and a check in the drop box. They will mail your license
