Getting your first license ever you would have to go to the DMV because AAA does not give driving tests. Also you must supply your own car for the test and since you don't have a license you can't get the car to the DMV without breaking the law. Later on when you need to renew AAA is a good choice as long as you have a membership because it literally takes 20 minutes at the Warwick location. Cranston AAA forget about it they take way too long.

No they only do renewals,updates and duplicates
