We have been placing Golden Retrievers 15+ years. We receive shelter dogs sick and/or hurt requiring treatment. All dogs must be held in isolation for 2 weeks at our vet facility. In that time they get a thorough work up including blood panels tested by outside labs for various diseases like Heartworm, thyroid issues, parasites. We have taken in dogs hit by vehicles, have ACL tears & malnourished & if they need training, we bring them to a professional for obedience classes. We will not put a dog up for adoption until it is healed, healthy & has all vaccines &, of course, neutered or spayed. We pay for all boarding fees & food. If we have no dogs available, we put people who have passed a vet screening & home visit on our waiting list. When a dog comes in, we check that list first to find a family that has passed all screenings & is the best match for the dog. Maybe now you have a better understanding the reasoning for our fees, which are set by age. Also, we are all volunteers!!
No that's a possible scam.I don't mind paying for a dog but saying you'll put me on a waiting list is not cause to ask for an application fee.
Sadly it's the way of the world today
