I have a neighbor who feeds a colony of feral cats on our street. There are 30+ cats. None of them are spayed/neutered or vaccinated. I have tried speaking to him about it but both times he slammed the door. How do I help him understand TNR?

Hi Vidya, our Trap Neuter Return (TNR) program is available to all people caring for feral, stray, free-roaming or community cats. Humane traps are available for loan and require a $100 refundable deposit per trap. If you have any questions, please call us at 904.425.0005. We also have resources on our website that might be helpful: https://www.fcnmhp.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/FeralFreedomGuide.pdf

Maybe find a note card with a cute cat(s) on it and MAIL it to him because I think it's technically illegal to put things in peoples' mailboxes. Start off with saying you think it's great he is feeding the cats and that you want to help in your own way. Say that you know he must worry about the health and safety of the cats since there are so many of them. Perhaps then you could quote some statistics about cats going into heat at 4 months and how many kittens they would produce. Then state again that you are trying to help in the best way you know how. Maybe mail a copy of the FERAL FIX info from the FCNMHP website. Find out exact info from FCNMHP but currently they provide with FERAL FIX free spay/neuter, rabies, distemper and worming(?) along with a health check. Let your neighbor know you ADMIRE him for his love of cats and would be willing to help out. FCNMHP also has a pet food giveaway every 6 weeks which is also on the website. Perhaps you could offer to help trap and feed them

Sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands. You might be able to talk to first coast no more homeless pets and see if they will work with you since they are not in your yard oh, I don't know if they do stuff like that though. However, my girlfriend and I used to do TNR and used to go there a lot but we never asked for any help from them so I don't know if they would be willing to work with you that something that you would have to call them and ask. That's really all you can do it sounds like you have a very grumpy neighbor.
