I purchased my place already with a fenced area in the back. You need to file for a modification in order to get approval. The fronts are not fenced. The thing to keep in mind is that everything that falls within that fenced area becomes your responsibility. You keep up with trimming bushes and trees and cut the grass. The association will no longer maintain any of it. Same goes for changes to the original landscaping all around. Any changes/modifications made by the owner get passed to the next owner and so on. Careful because in your eyes it may look better but you are passing on all responsibility to a buyer and for many, doing yard work is not something to look forward if they are retired and want to enjoy the time. I personally almost backed out from buying because most of the time was spent going back and forth between realtors, homeowners and association about every single thing that was planted. It was rather odd just been in the middle.
Not sure you have to check with Property Management.
