LASIK is performed on the cornea, which is the outer surface of the eye. This normally corrects myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. Cataract surgery is performed inside the eye by replacing the natural lens with an artificial lens. The cataract is a clouding of the natural lens and there are no known treatments for other than cataract replacement surgery with an artificial lens. If you have cataracts, LASIK will not noticeably improve your vision.
