I had the same problem with my iPhone 6 plus and my son is having the same problem with his iPhone 8 plus. All other iPhones in the house were or are fine. Changing the Sim didn't work so we will have to schedule apple again. We are also with Verizon.
There is a recall for that issue. Take it in for a FREE repair by March before the recall ends. https://www.apple.com/support/iphone-7-no-service/
