How is it determined whether one is interred in a crypt or below ground? What specific information is engraved for the crypt or headstone? Are military service numbers still engraved on the memorials? Is the branch of military service denoted?

All caskets are in ground. There are no casket crypts in a National Cemetery. But there is an above ground columbarium. The family chooses if the urn will be buried in ground, or placed in the columbarium. Service numbers are not engraved on grave markers. At a minimum, the Veterans name, branch of service, dates of birth and passing are engraved. Additional information like rank. Wartime period, and/ or a personal message are allowed; though there are space considerations.

I'm so sorry, I can't answer the questions because my attendance their was strictly for a memorial. These questions need to be answered by the staff there. They were very friendly and accommodating.
