I agree with Mr. Roberts. I had a bowel resection on September 25th and while I was connected to a PCA, the amount of dilaudid released with every push of the button was miniscule and provided no pain relief.
What ever you do , get a flu shot next year before you get sick and show up in the ER !!! 2017-18 was a bad flu season with no reason to think next year will be ANY better. I had to have abdominal surgery to remove a large intestinal blockage and because so many dummies up here didn't get the flu shot before coming down with it in January & February especially I had to wait for a room almost 18hrs, some had waited longer in the limited triage space available... During that time while in unbearable pain the pain management was a joke and few and far between, all the while worried that with flu patients on the right and left coughed all 18hrs, the staff tried to keep up but a little bit of Hycodan cough syrup would have abated that.!! But it seems the hospital is so worried about " opiate pain killers" they denied patients relief like myself also in excruciating abdominal pain was denied, being told how there's "a national shortage"of Hydromorphone ( blatant lie ) 18hrs 1mg bad joke!

I agree with Mr Roberts...bring your own pain meds. Do not expect an ER Doctor thats never seen you to treat your pain. I had a total gastrectomy, complete stomach removal, and my first stricture left me doubled over in pain, unable to eat or drink anything by mouth. I went to the Memorial ER and was left to suffer for 10 hours before finally being admitted and given a tiny dose of morphine...and this was the hospital that originally took out my stomach to begin with! Be advised.
