Hello! Yes, pets must be anesthetized to have dental radiographs taken. Dental Radiographs are taken the same way and with the same type of equipment used on humans, which means there is a hard film or plate inserted into their mouth in a very specific position. If the position is not correct or if the pet is moving (likely bc they don't understand why this "thing" is being put in their mouth!), the radiograph is going to be non-diagnostic.
