There is a casino on Catalina Island but there has never been gambling there. Casino is an italian word which means "gathering place". The top floor is the largest ballroom in the entire world, and the bortom floor is the worlds first theater made for both silent and talking picture films.
A tour guide told us that in Greek Casino meant "gathering place" and there had never been gambling at the casino in Avalon. The 1400 seat theatre has movies. We saw "The Greatest Showman" Jan 28, 2018. The upstaies is a huge ballroom. Weddings, receptions, etc gave been held there. Beautiful building!??

The "Casino " was the highlight of my trip!! Such an amazing & beautiful place!! The theatre downstairs still shows recent movies!! Don't miss seeing the "Casino" if you visit Avalon.
