I believe fires are not permitted (I looked closely at the sand and found zero charcoal traces on the lagoon side). And I think it's like that so the whole Beach, too. It's kind of sad because when I was a young boy I would just go down to the beach at any time of the day or evening -- play in the water for a bit and come out to make a small fire for myself without any hassle; but now I believe you get hassled by the cops if they see you build a fire (happened1 to me once in 2001 while I was on a date with my then gf-now-wifey) they straight kicked sand on it and on us.

As long as you do it on the sand it shouldn't be an issue.

They used to allow fires, but we've been in a draught for years, and I believe fire is a major concern.
