From when I work at oceans and worlds of fun 10 years ago, I can tell you the most likely reason is becuase people don't leave right way when the park close ecpecially at night time and oceans of fun has to clean thier pools out after everyone is gone. For oceans of fun it can take anywhere between 30min to 2 hours for guest to leave. Where as when worlds of fun was open till 12a.m it consistently took people 2 to 5 hours for people to finally go and half the staff is not aloud to leave while guest are still in the parks.
I heard it was to clean the pools at the end of the day while there is still daylight. They dont want to let everything sit over night. But not sure if that is correct

They could stay open till sun sets i could understand closing in the dark but not when theres at least 2 more hours of daylight
I have no clue why I closed early I know it closes 7 p.m. then during summer time this year they are going to try closing at 8
