While there is no camping allowed in the park, the Appalachian trail cuts through Swatara State Park, State Game Lands 80, and a State Game lands to the north, just up Gold Mind Road. There's an old rail trail along a creek called Evening Branch that leads to a Reservoir to the East and an abandoned town to the West. At this town, called Rausch Gap, there's an intersection with the Appalachian trail. There is single night camping allowed there as long as you're a hiker. If you want to go Primitive camping, I recommend a PA state Forest run by the PA DCNR.
No camping in the park. There are camp grounds to the north and south of the park that offer campsites and amenities.
No camping , park closes at dusk, although you can camp down the road at lickdale campgrounds and walk the trails from there
