1786 with various additions through the years

Mission Santa Barbara was founded by Fr Fermin Lasuen in 1786. A major earthquake in 1812 was so big it caused severe damage to several other missions in the area. Mission Santa Barbara was rebuilt with thicker walls, completed in 1820. Another significant earthquake struck again in 1925. But by this time, the church at Mission Santa Barbara had been built and rebuilt five times. Additional restorations and additions were also added through the mission's history.
