From its Inception, the dish of chicken and waffles was born in a time and a place, in an arena in which most of our inhibitions, including nutritional and dietary concern, were thrown to the wind. We're talking about a dish whose creation was born from a restaurants proprietor's aspiration to satisfy culinary desires of his patrons, with the creation of a dish that would cater to a dinner, or should I say supper seeking crowd, and a breakfast seeking crowd, at the same time, all on one plate. Thus the yin and the yang, this sweet and the savoury feat was achieved. Caloric intake was not of a major concern from its origin, and still remains largely that way till this day. Post nightclub? In the middle of Harlem? In the 1940s? Heck at that time not smoking was just about considered unhealthy. Chicken and Waffles are an excellent indulgence, just use sparingly... And don't worry about its nutritional information
Its on the healthier side of soul food.
First of all, the Main St. location is permanently closed. They will be reopening soon in a spot on Foster. Second, it's a deep-fried, flour and cornmeal battered chicken breast and a flour, cornmeal, and Buttermilk based waffle. Spreads are mostly butter based. Southern Style chicken and Waffles like this runs you around 700 calories depending on how many schmears and syrups you slather on.
I believe they have a salad option but like others have said it is more on the soul food side
You'd have to check with the staff.
None that I've ever seen. It's a soul food restaurant so expect to put on a few pounds :-)
