Most are just a simple push button, push and hold and it calibrate, then run it back and forth until it signals it found something.
Which stud finder did you purchase? Describe the tool
Mine is blue. Button on left side. When I depress button it blinks red $ makes a beeping noise. When l drag it across it’ll beep red $ a short yellow.
Did not buy a stud finder sorry I can't help you
