I have never seen gators on shore, but hanging out in marsh and near boat slips. Never been in water myself, but I've always heard that ameobas can be in lake water if it is warm enough. People are swimming and on jet skis!
The sand is very long, they are very good about keeping alligators out. The swimming I am not so sure about. A lot of walkers and picnickers.
