Well, based on public opinion you don't necessarily have to purchase tickets ahead of time, but if you want to get in hassle free with no waiting in line, it might be a good idea. Especially if you are going with a large number of people and meeting them there. Otherwise just expect to wait in line for the brief amount of time needed to purchase at the gates, pack a lunch in a big cooler, food is a little bit pricey, and selection is limited.
