Hybrid bikes have an upright riding position and usually some kind of suspension, such as telescoping forks, like a mountain bike. But, they'll usually have tires that are somewhere between mountain bike and road wheels. They are designed to be more comfortable than a road bike with some of the "go anywhere" flexibility of mountain bikes but more efficient on harder surfaces.
