You can also take the trolley to Fisherman's Wharf. Very nice view of everything.
Parking on the street is about $3.00/hour. There is a parking lot up the street . I believe there is a $10 all day charge (The Best Deal). Near the Bakery Café is a great place to park for exploring the wharf. If you want to take a boat around the bay instead of doing the over-priced Alcatraz tour, there is a public transit boat where you will see a lot. ( Between Alameda or Oakland and San Francisco Ferry Building or Pier 41.) Alcatraz can be seen from many areas and if you have a long zoom camera, you can get great pictures without ever needing to go there. Instead of going to Alcatraz we explored more access area to each side of the Golden Gate and places like Lombard Street. San Francisco is very large with many expressways, and having access to a vehicle is almost necessary to see everywhere.
