You don't have to but I recommend you do because one time I didn't and I went there and I found out someone reserved the day for a birthday :/ and fee is usually $10 per person but if you're a student then its $7 and I think kids are free (???I don't remember?? lol)
They have a webpage for reservations. Great place to spend quiet time with cats and considerate friends.
Highly recommended as visitation is based solely on whatever time-slot you have reserved. There is a fee. (i believe it is 10 dollars per person)
