If you have kids and plan to go more than just a few times, getting a membership is worth it. My kids love it and enjoy all of the science related activities, however, it is not a place that I would recommend for adults only.

You can go and watch the movies that they have. It is $10 a ticket for the movies. Not sure about the museum price
