According to an article I just read today, the animals are being killed in less than 7 days. This unnacceptable. No animals should be killed, they should all be adopted.

I'm been back a few times in the last week and there are animals there over 6 months. Whatever article that was is clearly unreliable and biased. This is the most well kept shelter I've ever seen (been in multiple states). There's tons of room for the animals compared to other places and I've never seen a place with so many people working there. All the animals actually even looked happy....dogs wagging their tails and cats eating wet food. Never seen a shelter have wet food - usually too expensive. I'll be getting an animal from here in the near future and would encourage every one to.

What bothers me is when I went to adopt a kitten I was told there is a chance I will get denied adoption this amaziing adorable kitten because I serve in the United States Army... I don’t understand yes we deploy no it’s not often and even if I did deploy my kitten will still be cared for.

3 failed state inspections August September October 2017 still a basement , director Roseann trezza has 16 counts of animal cruelty pending.. 3 court dates postponed .

I’ve adopted two dogs from there. Both dogs were there for over 6 months. They have some animals that have been there for a year. They also send animals to other humane societies in New Jersey (Tinton Falls and Popcorn zoo) in the hopes that they will get adopted. That’s how my brother found his dog. She was found in Tinton Falls, wasn’t adopted so they tried her at popcorn zoo. She was adopted immediately.

When is the director going to be fired? The director of associated humane societies has been charged with animal cruelty at this high kill shelter.

That is false information. Wish I knew which article Ruth read that from. I just adopted a pet from the Newark location. There's currently a dog there who's been at the shelter since August. 4 months later (now December) she's still there. Yes animals are euthanized after a certain amount of time. I just don't know exactly how long.

Before taking any pet here please try to find somewhere in the suburbs that you can take them and say that you found them in there jurisdiction that way they'll have a better chance of finding them a family and avoid being euthanized in days

At this location, anything goes.

Sonja G you are wrong. An owner surrender can NOT be euthanized as soon as the papers are signed. Owner surrenders can NOT be euthanized for 7 days. They can be adopted out or transferred to rescue immediately, but NOT euthanized. Strays can NOT be adopted, transferred or euthanized for 7 days. That is the law. It is intended to give owner surrenders an opportunity to be adopted or placed thereby sparing its life, and strays an opportunity to be reunited with its family. So there is no killing for 7 days regardless. The exception is unless an animal’s condition is determined by a VETERINARIAN to be irrefutable suffering, can it be destroyed prior to 7 days. That is the law in NJ

By NJ STATE LAW , an owner surrendered animal can be euthanized after the papers are signed otherwise it's a 7 day hold to see if an owner comes, if in that time no one comes or showed interest they can euthanize but not before than!

How sad that they euthanize dogs after 7 days without giving them a chance to live. Everyone deserves a second chance at life, we are their voices. Remember it takes a village. Speak up. And the Dr that's cruel he should go to jail. Why did he become a Dr for. Really sad. And it shouldnt matter what type of home you have as long as u can care for the animal
