The line for tickets moved really quick so I wouldnt really worry about it too much unless you can find a discount online.
Its not necassary but you might want to get tickets to the guided tours. It gets busy and you can't really go around and look at the pictures like you want because of the group's. All in all its awesome. The virtual reality experience they have going on right now is even more awesome! Make it a day the downtown area near the water is awesome for young and old

They are the same price as buying at the museum. I would make sure the museum is open and not closed for a private event but other than that no advanced arrangement is needed.
