Is there a "lodge" on the mountain where you can put your gear on, or do you need to be suited up, ski boots and all, when you get on the gondola?

Yes their is! You can ride the gondola up to the top of the mountain. And put your extra stuff into a locker and get suited up at the top of the mountain in a heated area.
