I went in to the RMV to register two cars gifted to me. Yesterday I got a request for payment for the registrations etc and I paid them. Does this mean I can go back to pick up my plates?

If you received the payment clearance you are good to go to pick up the plates. Keep the receipt (email) of the transaction so the security guards will ask for it.

I paid got the receipt and the plates were sent to me via mail. No pickup needed.
