Yes to all of your questions. Online is your best resource and if you are a Costco member checkout their package deals for members. Those are hard to beat.
We stayed at the Double tree. It's really nice. They are across the street. They have a free shuttle to Universal. It is less then a 5 min ride. From there you take another free shuttle to Volcano Bay. In peak season we spent $85 per person. There are multiple day deals that can save you money. You can also buy the meal plan to save money.
Same here..we stayed at Cabana Beach Resort...part of Universal. It ran about $4200 for 2 adults, 14 yr old (adult) and a 4 year old...with round trip airfare from Houston for 6 nights, 5 days at Universal with hop pass, and 2 standard days at Disneyworld.
There are a few hotels close. When my family and I were there we stayed at the Cabana Beach Resort Hotel. Volcano Bay was walking distance. Yes they do have different package deals.
