What kind of pass does one need to visit a family member , or what does one need to do?

Yes just have member add you to resident list and usually good for 30 days then have to get another pass

The resident just needs to add your name to their access list. The guard will verify that you are authorized to enter and give you a pass good for the days so authorized.

Have your friend or family member call the gate AHEAD of your arrival. It's best to do this every time you visit at this community. If you don't do this they will try to call ther resident while you are at the gate, and if they don't answer (and many do not because the gate usually has a landline for the resident) you will be denied entry. I've had it happen personally, more than once.
