Alpha Thrift is not a consignment store and do not sell other peoples things. They maintain several racks of quality clothing which sell for higher prices. But there are no requirements for donations. I'm pretty sure they recycle a lot of the more worn items.
I would say you can do both, and the clothes they sell seem to be in fair condition.
