Cat 5, Cat 6, Cat 6e.. (short for category 5, 6 or 6e)... has 4 twisted pairs of wires , 8 total. It looks similar to an RJ-11 (4 wire old telephone cord) only wider with 8 connections.. I would guess it's a network connection like Nathan said.
Usually ethernet, for networking purposes.
