Hi William, BBB assists in disputes that relate to marketplace issues experienced with the services or products a business provides. Here is more information on the complaint process: https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complaints/file-a-complaint/get-started. You can also find more information about rent increase from mass.gov at https://www.mass.gov/info-details/tenant-rights#:~:text=Rent%20Increases%3A%20There%20is%20no,with%20the%20new%20monthly%20rent).

Thinking the landlord has to give some kind of notice... 30+ days at least. But the truth is, from what I understand, the landlord can raise the rent whenever he/she chooses, because essentially your son can choose to leave or find another place if he wants a cheaper rate, (not saying that's easy or anything...just think it's the hard truth w/ the economy right now.) BUT, the landlord is clearly not an understanding person so perhaps a new rental somewhere else is overdue?
