Bob Pantry, the original owner, had a dog named Duke. Duke was hit by a bus and died outside the Pantry. The doors were locked and Bob could not get inside to get a turkey baster which, had the doors been open he could have saved Dukes life...thus, the doors are now forever open...

Thwy began with the idea of never closing, so no key was necessary. And I don't believe it has ever closed. Amazing food by the way, as can be seen by the line that forms outside. Love this place.

Actually, it has been closed before - by the Health Department, temporarily.

24 hours in a day and they never lock the doors. So why a key? It's always been open. Be happy they're open, go eat and enjoy!

Hmmm? I guess the point is that no key or lock is needed if they've never closed since 1924?
