Hi there Cheryl - Thanks for thinking of adopting a new dog. If you haven't done so already, you can register your interest for adopting a specific breed at our shelter any many other local shelters at www.petharbor.com. Simply enter in your zip code and select Adopt a Pet from the left side of the screen. When the list of shelters come up, select the ones that you are interested in and select the type of pet on the left. After you select "Search Now" an orange bar will appear below that where you can "Register Your Breed Interest". If you click that, you can choose to be contacted any time a pet comes in at a local shelter listed as the breed you are interested in. Hope that helps!
Ron is right. If you go in, you will find the right match. They have the dogs separated into small and large breeds for your convenience. The people working there are very knowledgeable about the dogs they are caring for. They take them for walks everyday and monitor the behavior to make sure the animals aren't getting stressed. I was very impressed and ended up with a new companion myself. It took 5 visits, but the workers were patient and let my family and me go at our own pace. I highly recommend this shelter if you're looking for a pet.
It is hard to predict what breeds of dogs will be available at any given time. If you go in, likely you will fall in love with one of the dogs that is looking for a home.
