It was dirt till 72 or 73 i believe my dad raced that dirt track every saturday night , he stopped raceing when they paved the track said it wasnt the same Vvv
Didn't know you could cover that with dirt. I've only been there once last year and only saw asphalt which works for me. I like the faster NASCAR style racing.
Dirt racing is where the excitment is. Plus keeping the cars momentum around corners tends to make dirt faster. In 2000 they put dirt on Bristol and Sammy Swindell turned a lap of 13.8 seconds in a winged sprint car (the track banking was reduced about 10 degrees with the dirt on it). In 2016 Denny Hamlin set the nascar lap record at 14.5 seconds. Thats 16 years of advancements to only get tgat close. Now in 2011 Brian Gerster was able to beat it in a pavement Sprint car at 12.7. I could only imagine the speed difference if they were tk compare speeds now with dirt.
