As with most products, it is wise to address issues with the manufacturer first, then if you are unsatisfied with the results, i would go to a store such as shoot straight. If the employee is unfamiliar with the issue, they will search out an answer, great knowledge and team work there.
Go to Taurus website they must have some info on what to do or a 1 800 number you could call.
There was a recall of 9 different guns made between 1997 and 2013. Checkout "Taurus recall" lots of good information on the website. Looks like a lifetime guarantee was part of the settlement.
Yes send it to Taurus. They are good at servicing their products, but call them first to see if they will honor their warranty. It has been 14 years.
