I bought a tractor, was recommended to use red dye diesel, why can't I use regular diesel? Purchasing red dye diesel is a bit of a task and hard to find due to regulations.

Alot of it has to due with oils in the fuel or taxes ... Call you local equipment dealer and I will bet it will be fine to run standard diesel in your unit .I know big companies use it just because of bottom line cost and tax 👍

I work for RDO Equipment so it doesn't matter what color the diesel as long as it is ultra low sulfer diesel. The red dye is used by companies that don't run on public road. So they don't pay the state tax. The dye is there for puposes of truckers using it and saving money. If the CHP swabs the tank or fuel lines and it shows red they get a ticket. So feel free to use red dye. Just don't go speeding in your tractor...lol

Go with what the owners manual says. Example: my Stihl chainsaw saws use 89 octane but the Stihl 2 stroke motor oil mix says use 91 octane. What to do? Go with what the owners manual says!.. I put 89 because it's what the saw says it needs.

It must be fairly new one because my boss bought a brand new 1-ton dually Dodge and he has to put a gallon of this chemical in his tank after 6 tank falls it's due to emission control I would get rid of that tractor and find one that doesn't require it get your caterpillar or John Deere better luck with a Ford tractor very dependable
