Real I'd requirements will not go into effect until 2020. You need to check with your states DMV to see if they offer a real ID complaint ID and what their requirements are. Keep in mind california is only offering the real ID compliant version to those that make an appointment and request it with supporting documents. If your new california license states "Federal Limits Apply" on the upper right corner, or is not the new layout it will not be allowed for TSA identification purposes after January 2020.
