So much easier and quicker if you go in person (prepared). Otherwise use online option (may be a difficult option to have all documents and photos uploaded in the right resolution and all).
You have to go in person for renewal. Please check I think you can renew online. Please call Consulate General of Pakistan, Los Angeles for seeking guidance how to apply online for renewal of your passport
