Hi Laura. The lake itself is about a 7 minute drive. There is some shade. I booked Loop One, camp site 2 and 4 had shade. Fyi, if you want to book camp sites next to each other you need to book 1 and 3 or 2 and 4. Counter intuitive.
About 2 miles. Yes but not a lot of shade. There are snakes this time of year. But they're everywhere in SoCal. Just watch your step, warn your kids and keep your dog on a leash.
Laura, there are a lot, a lot of very annoying flies attacking you at this time of year and there are thousands of holes in the ground looking like snake houses :) i never saw a snake yet. bring repellants. ill stay away for a month or two...
